October the month of the Fire Dog
The dog has 3 lots of qi buried within. The energies are earth, fire and metal.
The stem is yang fire.
Yang fire denotes passion, lust, the entertainment industry, stock-market and energy generation particularly when there is a flame involved in the industry.
The emotional state that fire governs is joy and shock. The taste is bitter and it is the most yang of energies.
The branch is the dog. The primary qi is yang earth.
The 2 remaining hidden stems are fire and metal.
We can certainly make this qi productive if we know how to tap it - which days will yield fire, which will yield metal and which earth.
Earth relates to the immune system, to the spleen and to worry and pensiveness when in excess or deficient.
The fire dog
The fire dog means that fire above meets fire below, and the earth and metal are strengthened - so we have very strong earth being fuelled by the fire - making it very hard and dense. We last met this annual qi in 2004 and the monthly qi in October 2010.
With such a surfeit of fire, I think that the dominant thing to be aware of to, protect against will be the worry - the excess of earth being made hard and unyielding by the fire.
Antidote to worry is trust. How do we built trust and faith? We learn to let go of attachment. How do we do that - we learn to meditate, to accept what is at least for not less than 5 minutes a day. If you would like to practice letting go and need a little guidance then you can access these two creative visualisations below.
fire dog meets the wood sheep
The fire dog + the wood sheep = excess earth.
The wood feeds the fire, the fire feeds the earth and the metal (hidden in the dog is buried too deep to help).
The result is the same as for the fire dog - dense and over hard earth. Stubbornness and rigidity are a feature of this month's energy as is excess worry - so protect yourself by learning stress reduction strategies. Don't react to others intransigence either - you will just add way too much energy to the situation. Remember this is Mental Health Awareness Week - so lets all get into reducing stress by taking the 5 minutes a day challenge.
