Our next term starts on 28th of April for North Hobart and 5th of May for Sandy Bay.
It has been a short term for the Sandy Bay students and, as they are brand new to Tai Chi, we are going very slowly over the first moves of the form.
We start, as always with the feet at 45 degrees. Then pushing down into earth and up into heaven we create the potential for movement from the dantien. When we are fully prepped, Dantien ready we raise our eyes to the horizon and rotate our right foot so it is parallel with the left, pivoting on the heel. Then, we raise our hands parallel to each other with palms facing but not touching, towards heaven. We pull heaven to earth, and then raise earth to dantien. In so doing we describe a circle. and step forward on our left foot, and the right foot follow steps. We then rotate to the right, allowing the right index finger to lead our eyes until we are pidgeon toed and ready to step forward after bringing the hand around in a soft circle to the ear. As we extend forward we track the index finger with our eyes and extend the hand forward and follow step. Rotate to the front. Open, close the hands keeping them parallel and using the breath as a bellows to bring qi into dantien. Open the curtain or single whip, weight is 60:40 on the right foot. Brush the right knee with the palmar surface of the right hand, as we bring the left hand up in a block to the forehead simultaneously. Release the hands and press forward from the chest to just before full extension, stepping forward on the right foot. Release the elbows down at the same time follow step with the left foot. Open, close, look to the right hand as it sweeps up to ear height, tracking with the eyes, simultaneously the left hand sweeps down in front of dantien and twist step and brush knee to the left.
More of the opening steps in a later blog.
